Pte. Ernest Morris

Ernest lived with his father, William Morris at Grove Cottage, Staunton on Arrow, Pembridge. He volunteered for army service at the time of the Lord Kitchener “Your King and Country Needs You” campaign of late 1914.

Following completion of training, Ernest joined the 5th (service) Battalion, KSLI, which landed at Boulogne on 20th May 1915.

Ernest was present at the battle of Hooge (30th July) and continued in front line service until wounded in action, in the early stages of the attack on Bellewaarde.

Ernest received a severe gunshot wound to his side and was admitted to hospital in Etaples. He made a good early recovery but later suffered a relapse, dying on the 18th September 1915.
